The use of standards already available when implementing new architectures, as well as the creation of new standards to facilitate horizontal markets are principles that Grid would target. On the other hand, open source communities are expected to play a relevant role in consolidation of these standards. This collaborative space helps in the coordination of SOI-NWG with standardization bodies and open source communities. Its aim is to:

• Describe the relevance of standardization and open source software (OSS) communities, mainly for grid projects
• Identify grid-related standardization bodies and OSS communities to focus on
• Identify actions to perform that will enable to monitor work and drive effort of selected standardization bodies in areas of interest

SOI-NWG has supported the creation of the new Open Source Software NESSI Working Group contributing with the whitepaper on Strategies for OSS.
