NESSI-Grid Workshop on Discussion of the Initial Version of the Strategic Research Agenda(September 18, 2006)

A Specific Support Action, called NESSI-Grid, has been launched as an IST-FP6 project with the objective of helping NESSI gather the input of industry, research organizations, public authorities, financial institutions and other stakeholders across the EU to contribute to the NESSI SRA. The SOKU (Service Oriented Knowledge Utilities) concept as defined by the Next Generation Grid experts group concept, will be an important aspect covered in the Grid chapter of the NESSI SRA and, in this way, the NESSI-Grid project will also help to develop and further implement this concept.

While contribution to the NESSI SRA constitutes the key goal of NESSI-Grid, the project will also address related matters (standards, IPR, research infrastructure, training, etc). Liaison with standardisation bodies and open source communities is crucial. The use of standards already available when implementing new architectures, as well as the creation of new standards to facilitate horizontal markets are principles that NESSI supports and that Grid would target and NESSI will support. Open source communities are expected to play a relevant role in consolidation of these standards.

The event was held in Brussels and participation was open to anyone (meeting invitation).

The objectives of this workshop were to:

  • Present the current status of the NESSI-Grid SRA. You will also receive a draft document describing the initial version of NESSI-Grid SRA prior to the workshop
  • Discuss the NESSI-Grid SRA with selected experts from the Grid Research community
